SBS BUYS COMPUEXCEL

The SBS Group, based in N.J., is continuing on its effort to single-handedly consolidate the Dynamics SL market. This week, it announced the purchase of CompuExcel of Irvine, Calif. which follows last week’s news that it had acquired Chicago-based Omnios.

The SBS Group is headed Jim Bowman and Joe Longo, who were partners years ago when they sold their business to the company now called ePartners, but which was then called TexSys RD. Like most of that business’s acquirees, they ended up somewhere else, Longo for several years with two organizations started by Solomon founder Gary Harpst. CompuExcel, which has about 30 customers according to SBS, carries Dynamics GP, NAV and SL, although the emphasis in the announcement was on the SL side. As an aside, CompuExcel’s website is typical of many VAR sites. It touts the company’s history, experience and “the philosophy and approach of the professionals at CompuExcel.” There’s not one name on the site and this violates the strongest point in the Taylor Macdonald philosophy of reselling – the main product VARs sell is themselves.
