INTACCT PITCHES BUDGETING, PLANNING Featured

Robert Reid, Sage IntcctThe big push at this week’s Advantage conference is for Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning. Introduced in limited release in September, the cloud-based product was given a big push in the eternal quest to convince businesses to use something better than an Excel spreadsheet for these functions.

In an interview from the show, (which I was unable to attend) CEO Robert Reid called the product one in which information “is easy to get to” as opposed to a spreadsheet where “You work really hard to create a set of assumptions with linkages to cells and somebody comes and cuts and paste something into the wrong place and all the formulas break." Reid and Dan Miller, VP of product management, billed the application as having strong version control. It also enables different departments to contribute their information to the process, but Miller noted that rights can be assigned so one department cannot see information, such as salaries from other areas. Also debuting is the Sage Intacct Interactive Custom Report Writer, a visual reporting tool. Miller said the utility enables simple reports to be created easily with reporting areas pre-built into the system, using drag-and-drop functionality. “You do simple group and sorting and create reports they want,” he said. Users can also easily “create pivot tables that trend over time.” The report writer will be available sometime this quarter. Also slated for introduction this quarter is Sage Intacct Dynamic Allocations. Intacct said users will be able to set up sophisticated allocations once and then dynamically generated future allocation.
