WHITHER EVEREST SOFTWARE?

Everest Software, which has made various runs at the mid-market with its ERP line, hasn’t said much since it was acquired by Versata in August 2010. Versata has acquired a stream of technology companies, most not in the financial software arena, and let them continue under their own names. Now Everest has a redesigned site which calls the operation “A Cloud 9 company.” The new website (new since I visited it about two weeks ago) is lacking in contact information. There’s no telephone number or office location and the section labeled “Store” isn’t a webstore in the sense that anything is being sold.

It contains a form for submitting information to Everest. Clicking on a couple of places produces an email to Everest, including the WOW support section. Then there’s this statement “Our CEO speaks with each and every customer twice a year.” Strange thing to brag about and not mention the exec by name. Versata has a press contact number which doesn’t work – the company’s phone system gives instructions to press numbers to reach any of its companies. Pressing nine is supposed to connect to Everest, but it didn’t go anywhere. Among other Versata operating companies, Artemis, Alterpoint and Gensym all have websites that call them Cloud 9 companies (although there’s no link to Cloud 9) and have the same organization and lack of contact information. The most recent Versata press release was on March 14 and announced the purchase of Ravenflow. It lists all the operating companies and makes no mention of Cloud 9.
