INTUIT ISP MEET; ALL QUIET

Intuit is planning a conference for the Intuit Solutions Provider program for September. Unlike the first two meetings, this one isn't open to the press. The official reason was since there are no announcements, there is no need for the press. Just for the record: going to a meeting to gather announcements is one of the dumbest reasons for the press to attend any event.

It's a lot easier to sit behind a computer and pick the announcements off press releases and to schedule interviews if necessary. My sense is that this is a program in disarray. Whatever it is, it's not the kind of reseller program that many of us thought it would be when it was trotted out a few years ago and traditional resellers were signed up to handle QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. Most VARs stopped being active when they found their efforts constantly undercut by the Intuit direct sales effort. Then, BJ Schaknowski, who led the effort from March 2009, left in May to become VP Global Solution Provider Sales for CA Technologies. A couple of years ago, Intuit had a team that made a presentation promising changes, such as enhancements to differentiate QBES from the upper end of the QB Pro product line. There have hardly been any separate announcements since then and I don't think that team exists anymore. Intuit should just say, "We're happy with direct sales." There is probably a better fit for the retail ISPs. But for the plain old accounting software VAR? There's not much there.
