INTUIT GRAPPLES WITH OUTAGES

intuit logoIntuit has been fighting outages that affect its payment processing operations. And while this isn’t specifically about mid-market financial software, it points out the difficulties that companies in general, and Intuit specifically, face in the move toward online services. The Intuit problems have included both outages and slowdown in service for Merchant Services and the company’s Billing Manager.

These started on Sunday September 18, with Intuit attributing the cause to a software update. But they continued through Wednesday, September 21, and it is clear from comments on the company’s Facebook page that there are QuickBooks users who feel that the Intuit has had more than its share of problems with its online services. However, this episode was not even remotely as severe as the problems Intuit faced in the summer of 2010 when most of its systems went down for more than a day. In general, the company’s moves in the online world have not been as smooth or as quick as it expected. It delayed plans for an online practice management system for CPA firms that was supposed to debut in May, but which is now entering a second pilot phase.
