SAP: THE SOUND OF SILENCE

Grant Fraser, Navigator Business SolutionsLate in February 2011, SAP began its 2011 Partner Summit. A couple of weeks ago, I asked a company PR representative what plans were for this year and told it was in the works. Well, some of the things that happened at the Summit, such as the naming of top VARs, happened in January at the SAP North American Field Kick Off Meeting.

For last year’s event, the press was courted and SAP delivered a polished event that stayed on the message of helping its channel make money. There was access to top North American executives and this year, nada por nada. I can’t find a reference to a 2012 Partner Summit, so I am assuming nothing is in the offing. The awards did not rate the same kind of coverage SAP gives to big issues such as its acquisition of SuccessFactors, which was finally accomplished this week. So here is the late news. Navigator Business Solutions of Salt Lake City, owned by Grant Fraser, was Business ByDesign Partner of the Year and Vision 33 of Irvine, Calif. was picked as Business One Partner of the Year. Answerthink, a division of The Hackett Group, was selected Overall SAP Channel Partner of the Year Award, North America. AnswerThink handles All-in-One, which is a little bit out of my usual range. Since there was a strong message in 2011, this lack of the usual Hogwarts invitation suggests what I am picking up in the channel in this country—no message.
