SAP FORECAST: CLOUDY WITH MORE CLOUDS

Rainer Zinow, SAPSAP has put into motion what it called an acceleration of its cloud strategy. That's based on the recently completed acquisition of SuccessFactors, whose CEO and founder Lars Dalgaard is leading the effort. Beyond the broad scope, among the more immediate concerns to the channel is the company said it was accelerating release cycle of Business ByDesign from six months to six months.

This is according to Rainer Zinow, SVP of on-demand strategy for SAP. That was part of the news from Sapphire, SAP's big conference that was going on this week. On the West Coast, news filtering back to NetSuite's SuiteWorld got tangled by a published account quoting SAP co-CEO Bill McDermott as saying that SAP once considered dropping ByDesign, which Zinow said is assuredly not something that is happening. The company is going forward with moving ByDesign upstream, with a 50-user bottom limit, with the new Business One OnDemand as the preferred product below that. Zinow says that includes positioning ByDesign for use in two-tier implementations. The company feels it can reach new markets by “repurposing ByDesign Assets” and there is a thrust towards providing cloud products as line-of-business solutions in the upper end of the SAP product line. Zinow says this is because there a different buying patterns in the midmarket than among enterprise-level firms. There was also a bi-coastal scramble after NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson reported SuccessFactors had renewed a million-dollar contract for NetSuite’s products while SAP was reporting its new subsidiary was starting to use ByD. Attendees said Nelson produced the numbers to validate his claim.
