SAP REVS UP, PROFIT DOWN

William McDermott, SAPSAP was long on superlatives as it reported results for the quarter ended September 30. But it came up a little short of the profit end. Otherwise, the period was described by co-CEO William McDermott as the company's best third quarter ever and one in which it reported software revenue of more than one billion euros.
The company's webcast had little information about the low end of the product line, Business byDesign and Business One. But it sounds like it is laying the groundwork for the ramp up to the next big B1 launch. McDermott advised listeners to "keep an eye on Business One with Hana in the cloud." The quarter was also described as the best ever for ByD, but details were scarce. McDermott said the Americas region produced 20 percent growth in software revenue, 19 percent in constant currency, which helped offset a slump in EMEA stemming from the continued European economic problems. Revenue for the quarter was about $5.1 billion, up 16 percent from a year ago and 10 percent in constant currencies. But with expenses up 20 percent, 14 percent instant currencies operating profit fell by 4 percent. Net profit dropped 3 percent to about $604 million.
