SAGE NAMES PRO END DATE

David Dierke, AccountMate Sage has said it will stop selling its Pro accounting application next year. And the only thing we had not known about the demise of Pro is the exact date and that turns out to be March 31, 2014. That marks the end of a product that has been on the market for decades and came to Sage via its purchase of Accpac International in 2003. Accpac got the product with its acquisition for the former SBT Accounting Systems in 2000.

Meanwhile, AccountMate CEO David Dierke took the opportunity to pitch Sage resellers on the fact that while Sage is getting out of the source code business, AccountMate is still in it. Dierke’s message to resellers was “Are you going to change your business model because Pro Series doesn't fit SAGE's business model?” And he continued that, “if your livelihood depends on billable time, it's in your best interest to continue selling a full source code accounting system.” Nothing like some good-natured competition. Other details about the end of Pro include the fact that full-year maintenance will be not sold after March 31 this year. Prorated plans will be available. Sage also said it may offer extended support services next year for those who have not begun migrations, depending on need. Pro customers can migrate to Sage 100 and 300 without paying license fees. They can move on to X3 for a $2,000-per-user trade-in credit.
