EPICOR SUES CONSULTING FIRM

Vivian Keena, Alternative Technology SolutionsEpicor Software has sued Alternative Technology Solutions alleging infringement of Epicor's copyright and intellectual property. Epicor also says that Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based ATS is falsely holding itself out as an authorized reseller and seeks actual and punitive damages. At Microsoft Convergence, a member of the Dynamics channel who knows Alternative has a high regard for that company’s CEO Vivian Keena and said the company has made a living fixing “screwed up” implementations of Epicor 9.

Keena has not yet responded to a request for comment nor has the firm’s most recent outside public relations agency. ATS executives had extensive careers at Epicor. Keena was VP of consulting services at Epicor, and worked there from January 2003 through December 2008. Allan Ward, VP of professional services, was formerly worldwide regional consulting manager with Epicor and worked there from February 1997 through July 2010. Cofounder and chief technology officer Donna Barnett was an Epicor consulting director and was with that company from March 1998 through July 2009. Epicor demanded the return of an unspecified set of proprietary materials and intellectual property and to permanently enjoin Alternative’s unauthorized and illegal activities and future violations. The ATS site shows it does not sell Epicor 9, but offers extensions and add-ons that target the Epicor 9 user and also performs integration between Epicor 9 and Salesforce.com and Magento. It lists its products as “Epicor 9 Solutions.” It also uses the Epicor logo on its home page under the words "What We Do".
