SAGE NAMES U.K.'S COO AS CEO Featured

Stephen Kelly, Sage GroupThe Sage Group has chosen technology leader and British government official Stephen Kelly as its new CEO. Kelly will take over from the current job holder, Guy Berruyer on November 5. On that date, Berruyer will also retire as a director of the United Kingdom-based company, but will remain available in a transition role until the end of March. Kelly will receive an annual salary of about $1.3 million and a one-time award of about $1.7 million that vests over a six years, depending on share return performance.

Kelly joined the Cabinet Office of the government of the United Kingdom in 2011 and became COO the next year. Before that he was CEO of Micro Focus International from March 2006 through October 2009 and was CEO of Chordiant, a CRM vendor, from 1997 through January 2006. He was director of vertical market solutions for Oracle from 1988 through October 1997. Kelly has one of the most interesting career summaries on a LinkedIn page that I have seen. It starts “Apologies if my LinkedIn info is not updated regularly - my philosophy is to enjoy living life and creating value rather than just recording it!” Berruyer became Sage CEO in 2010 and is resigning to do other things in life, according to his statement earlier this year. His accomplishment was to do a lot of things--such as retiring old software products--that should have been done under long-time CEO Paul Walker, but weren't.
