SAGE HITS XERO IN AUSTRALIA Featured

sageSage decided to do unto Xero as had been done to it. The United Kingdom-based company engaged in guerrilla marketing at Xerocon in Australia. Business Inside Australia reported attendees were handed hot coffee at the Melbourne Convention Centre and given a pitch for SageOne. The low-cost cloud accounting product was launched in Australia in May. A photo in the online publication showed a flyer with the words "SageOne Online Accounting; Not Just a Pretty Face. Only $15 a Month." Turn about? Last year, Acumatica set up in a café in the Mandalay Bay during Sage Summit and Sage presented rival with a $10,000 bill. But Sage's non-compete clause was with the casino, not the café.

It was Acumatica that started the serious guerrilla marketing with the Acumatica twins in 2013, sending them to Sage Summit and NetSuite's SuiteWorld. The more important point is the low-end battle that has spread across the world. New Zealand is home ground for Xero, which has made Australia its biggest market. The United Kingdom is Sage's home court, where Xero also plays. Meanwhile, Reckon, once the Australian distributor for QuickBooks, has introduced its Reckon One in the U.K. and the United States. And MYOB is home on the low-end in Australia and competes in New Zealand. Intuit moved into Australia with QB on its own after breaking with Reckon and is in the U.K.
