DEALS HURT EDGEWATER NET Featured

Shirley Singleton, Edgewater TechnologyAcquisitions benefited the top line of Edgewater Technology but helped push the company to a loss for the year ended December 31. The company lost $4.1 million in 2015, compared to net income of $4.1 million in 2014. Meanwhile revenue rose to $116.7 million for the most recently ended year an increase of 3.3 percent from $113 million the prior year.

Wakefield, Mass.-based Edgewater said last year's proxy fight with Ameri Holdings also contributed to $1.3 million in non-recurring charges. Tax issues chopped off another $3.3 million. The company had an operating profit of $1.5 million last year, down sharply from $7.4 million in 2014. Edgewater was also hit delays in customer orders that started in the first half, CEO Shirley Singleton said during the company's recent webcast. This largely affected the company's EPM business. "The start-stop mentality of some of the customers made management of staff utilization extremely difficult," Singleton said. However, software revenue—largely from Dynamics AX—was strong. It hit $10.9 million last year, an increase of 33.7 percent from 2014's $8.1 million. Edgewater spent more time talking about the ups and downs of the EPM side. Singleton said there was also some churn in the Oracle channel as Oracle was changing how it was licensing modules. In some cases, customers pushed project builds into 2016, rather than tackle them during the December holidays. The company asked staff that was on hold to take vacation. Service revenue for the fourth quarter fell by 4 percent. Despite those difficulties, service revenue also rose 3 percent, but Singleton said most revenue growth was driven by acquisitions.
