BRIGHTPEARL NAMES NEW CEO Featured

Derek O’Carroll, BrightPearl BrightPearl, which markets inventory and retail management software for multi-channel merchants, has named Derek O'Carroll as CEO. The San Francisco, Calif., and Bristol, U.K.-based company said O'Carroll's job is to drive the software company to the next level. Interim CEO Andrew Porter, who joined the company in July 2014 after a more than 20-year career in banking IT, became CIO.

O'Carroll served from December 2014 through April as SVP of global field sales and marketing for Symantec's Norton operations and had worked at the anti-malware software company since April 2006. He also has a LinkedIn profile picture that had me mulling "What were you thinking when you chose this?" Founded in 2007, BrightPearl is just starting to make waves in the United States and in January raised $11 million in venture financing for expansion in this country. The company says it has raised $30.5 million to date. The prior CEO Salman Malik, served from 2010 through 2015. There's a FaceBook page post in which he was given a sendoff by the staff when he relocated to San Francisco in 2014. That turned into a different sendoff and he ended up as COO of products for Salesforce.com in 2015 after a three-month stint with another company.
