THINKING ABOUT NETSUITE AND ORACLE Featured

Robert Reid, IntacctQuestions about Oracle's pending purchase of NetSuite have the industry pondering the impact. And one of those has to been what Oracle will do with the NetSuite channel. Oracle has said it will continue to develop the NetSuite product line, along with its own applications. But that cannot be too comforting to the NetSuite channel and there is evidence NetSuite VARs are nervous enough to approach other vendors.

One of those, Robert Reid, CEO of Intacct notes about Oracle that "They have never been channel friendly". Everyone expects that Oracle will make a significant layoff at NetSuite in order to accomplish Oracle's statement that the purchase will be immediately accretive to Oracle's financial results. Reid expects that Oracle will likely "be getting rid of sales people" at NetSuite, which is viewed by some as having been overly ambitious in its salesforce hiring, one of the major reasons that the cloud-based company has not been profitable. Reid also expects that Oracle will try to reach NetSuite customers. "They will be sell their long-in-the-tooth products back into the NetSuite base," Reid says. He also says Oracle had "dismissed the cloud" but now has to "break its mold" to address web-based computing with its purchase of NetSuite.
