SAGE CLOUD: 18 TO 24-MONTH CHANGE Featured

The move to unify the Sage Business Cloud via use of microservices will take about 18 to 24 months. The estimate was given by Nuno Godinho, Sage’s EVP for product delivery for the cloud portfolio, in a recent interview for an upcoming special report on cloud software.
That is the time it will take to unify the elements for the existing cloud products: Sage Live, One, X-3, Intacct and People, which are coming under the SBC umbrella. “A lot of them are already built and are part of this new solution,” Godinho said. Sage calls SBC the “one platform the customer will ever need” which resembles the phrase former NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson for his company’s line—“The last ERP system you’ll ever need.” What use of microservices will do is unbundle the features which have historically been part of large applications—more like single-purpose apps. The new approach to programming will enable users to subscribe to desired functions on a mix-and-match basis. Software users “will have exactly what they want and when they want it, rather than a big product where they only use 20 to 30 percent of capabilities,” Godinho said. Users will be able to add or drop features as their needs change. Godinho, who worked at Microsoft, said the capabilities are what Microsoft Azure “had from the start”. Channel members can advise users on what services they need and also utilize tools to build those services for specific markets.
