XERO MADE 2ND HALF PROFIT Featured

Vamos SteveXero lost about $18.7 million for the year ended March 31. But the New Zealand-based company said this it turned a profit of roughly $965,000 in the second half and its also reported free cash flow for the first time.

The fiscal 2019 loss was 9-percent higher than the red ink recorded for 2018, owing to impairments recorded in the first half of the recently ended year. Xero reported revenue of approximately $382.2 million for FY 2019, an 8.4 percent increase over the prior year. In a prepared statement, CEO Steve Vamos noted the second-half profit and the addition of 151,000 subscribers in the United Kingdom—more than 100,000 of those in the second half—and the fact that gains in subscription for the rest of the world exceeded those added in Australia and New Zealand as major accomplishments for the year. The cloud accounting software company also had free cash flow for the first time of roughly $4.48 million, an improvement of about $24.1 million. There were 239,000 international net new subscribers compared to 193,000 for ANZ. There were 741,000 international subscribers last year, an increase of 48 percent from 502,000 for 2018. ANZ ended the year with 1,077,000 subs, an increase of 22 percent from  884,000. North America had 185,000 subs, up 48 percent from 132,000. The booming U.K. business also registered a 48-percent increase to 463,000, up from 312,000. Total subscriptions of 1,818,000 were up 31 percent from 1,386,000. Results were also helped by the acquisition of HubDoc in August and Instafile in December.
