CONVERGENCE EUROPE: SMALL IS IN

Convergence logoMicrosoft’s expectations for attendance in four European cities in late October and early November suggests a model that Microsoft could adopt in having the Worldwide Partner Conference mercifully put down. Since on the product front Microsoft has been as quiet as a mime with a bad case of laryngitis, the attendance figures predicted for London, Vienna, Frankfurt and Rotterdam are quite interesting in their size and composition.

Microsoft decided on the multi-city approach to replace the single, large Convergence Europe of past practice. Total attendance (not counting exhibitors or speakers) at the four sites is expected as follows: London, 390; Vienna, 420; Frankfurt, 395; and Rotterdam, 663. Why Rotterdam should be the top, I don’t know, unless attendees from surrounding countries look forward to activities that are illegal where they live. Microsoft has a pitch about why users and resellers should attend and it’s worth looking at the five reasons offered to partners: 1) It’s local, relevant, and targeted to your customers’ specific needs. 2) Increase revenue and customer satisfaction. 3)  Strengthen your connections with customers 4) Learn the Microsoft strategy and future plans for Microsoft Dynamics 5) Networking. Now if all this can be done at Convergence why not make that pitch in the U.S. and let Dynamics resellers avoid the need to send a minimal representation to WPC just to be politically correct? Based on Microsoft’s estimates, the partner attendee percentage of the total is London, 25.6 percent; Vienna, 28.5 percent; Frankfurt, 20.2  percent; and Rotterdam,  30 percent. A lot of the resellers from western Germany are probably going to Rotterdam.
