SAGE GETS SAAS-Y WITH SALESLOGIX

Larry RitterSage looked to Amazon.com to provide the platform for a pilot test of a cloud computing edition of its SalesLogix suite of customer relationship management products, which was announced recently. Commercial availability is planned for early next year. The use of the term SaaS in a press release from Sage North America was a first and this looks like a step towards a broader program of Internet-based apps from the vendor.
Sage is partnering with Amazon.com, which is providing the Internet platform. As Larry Ritter, SVP and general manager of the CRM unit, said, Amazon "Obviously runs a pretty good data center." End users subscribe for cloud-based delivery of SalesLogix through Sage. Ritter noted that by utilizing the Amazon Web Services program, its Elastic Cloud Computing, users can choose an instance of the hardware and software services needed, in effect, picking whether to use "a big box or a small box." Ritter said because Sage doesn't want companies shopping for their virtual configuration, Sage is handling the front end and making that choice for them. About 120 resellers have been trained in how to handle engagements via the cloud, including demos and proof of concept.
