THE WINDOWS 7.0 LAUNCH

Windows logo

It was probably easier to miss the local weather forecast than Microsoft's launch yesterday of its Windows 7.0 operating system. My AOL account got an email from Hewlett-Packard announcing it. Even Apple was ready with television advertisements that reminded everyone that Microsoft has promised with each new version Windows that it won't repeat the mistakes of the prior version.

A friend told me, "Windows 7 is everything Vista was supposed to be and wasn't." The important question for the reselling market is the extent to which Windows 7 might drive PC sales, which is going to help the general economy, but it should also help those who sell networking and infrastructure services. If Microsoft can put an end to its system's habit of deciding to restart in order to install upgrades, even after I've pushed the postpone button, it would have my vote of approval.
