BOOMERS AND TECHNOLOGY

AARPRecently, Microsoft and AARP issued a report called "Boomers and Technology, An Extended Conversation." Since that fits a substantial part of the VAR and accounting firm leadership, it might be an interesting read for much of the audience before we are all led off in walkers to the home.

The report stems from conversations in four cities with 60 Baby Boomers who talked about what technology means to them. Among the conclusions: Boomers like to learn new technologies and share their knowledge and often learn from their children. (Although I found with my daughter, she often wasn't quite as expert as she thought she was. She could learn technology, but couldn't problem solve like an adult when things went wrong). They (I should say we) want technology to be safer and easier to use now and we want technology to adapt to us. We also enthusiastically embrace high-tech healthcare (we just don't want to pay for it.) And we use it to connect in new ways. One interesting conclusion was many Boomers take to online dating because it's tough to meet mates. It's worth a read if you have time.
