INTUIT TURNS DOWN VOLUME ON IN-PRODUCT MARKETING

IntuitQuickBooks users gave Intuit the W.C. Fields approach (Shut up kid; you bother me), and told Intuit that its marketing communications in QuickBooks 2010 were too much. Intuit has listed the changes it made in the newly released R5 patch in response to the complaints.
The “Recommended for You” widget in the Snapshot can now be turned off with one click. The “Accept payments” sidebar on the Receive Payments and Sales Receipts screens can now be closed with one click. The turn-off popup feature can turn off newly added pop-ups. (The company said this although it sounds like it came from the department of redundancy department). And the Payment Interview can be permanently turned off. The patch gets automatically pushed to copies of QB 2010 with updates turned on. Intuit ignored user requests to add a retching noise when unwanted features popped up and the sound of a flushing toilet when they were turned off.
