KLAUS TOUTS CHANNEL AS EPICOR BOOMS

George KlausCEO George Klaus has spent most of his conference calls over the two years touting Epicor as a direct-sales only organization. But he did an about face in this week’s first-quarter conference call.  “We are investing in investing, supporting and development our channel a particular focus on some of the larger systems integrators,” Klaus said. He linked channel growth to Epicor’s winning “larger and larger deals” as the company said Epicor 9 continued to fuel demand.
The first-quarter results don’t exactly say “boom” as the company lost $32,000 in the three months ended March 31, down from $1.6 million in red ink a year earlier. And revenue was up only .6 percent, reaching $99.3 million, compared to $98.7 million in last year’s corresponding period. But the telling figure was the fact that first-quarter license revenue was $16.2 million, 23 percent higher than the $13.2 million recorded in last year’s first quarter. The company added 123 new named customers compared to 84 in last year’s corresponding quarter. Epicor 9 is now shipping to more than 1,300 customers, including more than 500 new customers, according to Klaus. One hundred fifty companies were running on Epicor 9 at the end of the quarter and that figured is expected to hit 200 by mid-year. However, Epicor is not running out to enlist average VARs. Klaus said the company is looking for systems integrators and the action is more in the company’s international business. Although Epicor is starting to get some notice from mid-market VARs, the company said it is increasingly competing with Oracle and SAP.
