LARRY AND ME AND 79 OTHERS

Larry EllisonNetSuite trotted the press and analyst corps out to Pacific Heights to Chateau Ellison, whose views span the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz (where Oracle chairman Larry Ellison’s business enemies are imprisoned). All floors had balconies and are connected by spiral staircases with fine wood railing. I walked into one of the floor-to-ceiling windows while trying to exit. It was hors d’oeuvres as usual, if usual normally includes steak tartar, lobster tortellini, fava bean risotto, short ribs and Peking duck.

Technically, we were supposed to be on the main floor, but I made it downstairs before hearing people a level up being ushered back. The next floor had a boardroom table and chairs. Two of us agreed a huge wall painting looked like a Toulouse Lautrec. I said paint-by-numbers that size just takes forever. The bottom floor was a den with dark wood paneling. A billiard table with a setup chess table adjacent and very nice bookcase with books about Japanese art (an Ellison passion) and Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. A cubist painting was by Pablo somebody (but not, I think Picasso?). The bathroom had a huge walk-in shower, some stylish bath robes and a sauna. Very modern, the toilet also functions as a time portal. The shiny, black grand piano on the main floor had no name (custom-built?) and there was a variety of modern sculpture. I asked a staff person if IKEA has gone upscale. Some people have no sense of humor. House rules forbid red wine but they were relaxed to let people wear shoes, including spiked heels. This is the closest I’ve come to this executive level since I accepted a Linkedin invitation from Samuel Bronfman (no kidding for whatever reason) a couple of years ago. But he never writes.
