SYSPRO HITS THE CLOUD

Syspro, the manufacturing software specialist, has entered the Internet application world with Syspro BusinessLive, its SaaS offering. The product is available for a monthly subscription price. I’d offer more details, but most of the announcement touts the standard benefits of cloud products – the low monthly cost, ability to have updates, no need for large up-front IT or capital costs and yadda, yadda, yadda.

About the only distinguishing feature is that this product will offer the Syspro Power Tailoring tools that are available in the on-premise version. I’d really like to see some of these announcements spend more time talking about features. A few years ago, I had a writer who wrote that the Internet-version of a product was “available 24/7.” I lectured, “Unless you know of a version of the Internet that only operates 9-5, Monday through Friday, I think most people have gotten the message that it’s open all the time.” There’s a good chance that users, who are always reported as more adept at technology than ever, have a grasp on the basic arguments for buying cloud. It’s now time to start stressing product features and benefits since the rest of the playing field is even.
