MAS BASE GETTING SQL SERVER

sage logoSage is making way for SQL Server in Version 4.5 of the MAS line, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter. The ability to utilize SQL Server was released in October, but only for new customers, according to Erik Kaas, senior director of product management. Now, the installed base can choose between the Microsoft database engine and Sage’s historic Providex. That’s one of the additions in the road map that Sage has laid out, with many of the changes encompassing technology and features that have started in the Accpac line.

That includes making MAS 90 available as a Sage hosted system, expected for the second half of the year with users able to sign up on a per-user, per- month basis. Throughout the year, Sage will be rolling Extended Solution applications into the product line with seven of those hitting in V. 4.4 product updates 5 and 6 by the end of July, and 14 in V. 4.5. Also important is more FRx-like functionality in Sage Intelligence, with the update for that scheduled to hit in the last year. That includes reporting trees and an FRx conversion utility. Now that Sage has Microsoft’s permission to “unlock the data” it is duplicating reporting tree functionality and giving users the ability to distribute reports via email. Extended Enterprise Suite functionality is also being made available to all customers in 4.5. Customers get one free Sage CRM user under this arrangement.
