TRIBRIDGE OUTLINES MASTER VAR PLANS

Steve Terp, TribridgeTribridge hopes to sign its first Sales Affiliate by the end of the year under the new Microsoft Master VAR program. The Miami, Fla.-based Dynamics reseller is in talks with other dealers who are seeking to sign with the company, one of three Master VARs chosen by Microsoft. "We have not limited ourselves as to how many we will sign," Steve Terp, the company's chief sales officer, said this week.

Terp said Tribridge has not set either a maximum or minimum number of affiliates it will have nor has it limited itself to the geography in which it will operate. Under the Master VAR program, smaller resellers became Sales Affiliates of the Master VARs and operate under their names. The other Master VARs are the SBS Group and Interdyn Socius. In this case, any affiliates of Tribridge would operate under the company's name while maintaining their independence. Affiliates are organizations that would probably have trouble maintaining their Dynamics authorization under the tougher requirements of Microsoft's new channel program. After they ally with one of the three, the Master VAR is the dealer of record for the end user and also takes over maintenance agreements. Terp said that parties would likely share in maintenance revenue but noted there are different ways in which an agreement might be structured. The services provided to affiliates would vary by need. For example, Tribridge might provide SharePoint services to an affiliate that currently doesn't provide those. "It depends on what we find is needed by that particular partner’s customer base," says Terp. VARs seeking to become affiliates are typically small. Terp says many that the company is talking to have 20 to 25 customers. By contrast, Tribridge has at least $60 million in revenue. Of the other two Master VARs, the SBS Group has been developing its partner network for the past year. Socius has not yet publicly discussed its plans.
