SAGE REVS GROW; TO LAUNCH SAGE ONE IN U.S.

Guy Berruyer, SageSage this week said revenue in North America grew by 3 percent for the year ended September 30. Overall revenue for the parent, The Sage Group, was up by 4 percent organically, as the company returned to growth. The North American EBITA margin was 25.5 percent, up 3 points.

In an earnings webcast, CEO Guy Berruyer said Sage would launch its Sage One online application for small businesses as a platform worldwide with country versions developed on top of it, including in the U.S. One good sign was that sales of X3 were up 13 percent and that 38 percent of X3 revenue is now from outside of France, its company of origin. Among other factors in company-wide performance was an improvement in EBITA now that the Sage Healthcare division has been sold. Berruyer also said he planned to get back into the acquisition business. At the same time, Sage finally said publicly it had purchased Alchemex. Meanwhile, the best North American news was what Berruyer said was a strong performance by Sage Payment Solutions with cross selling of payment services into the accounting software base up by 40 percent. But he reported contraction in revenue of certain software products because of the economy, along with the switch from license revenue to subscription revenue in which all income is not recognized at once. North American EBITA was about $157 million, an 11-percent increase over 2010. North American revenue was $629.3 million out of the Sage Group total of $2.15 billion.
