DYNAMICS: PRICES SO LOW WE’RE ALMOST....

Those who can remember TV actor, the late Jerry Carroll for Crazy Eddie as the frenetic pitch man for the disgraced electronics chain, Crazy Eddie, might have a touch of nostalgia when visiting the Microsoft website. There always seems to be a discount on the Microsoft Dynamics Community blog. Right now, the site is features in the Big Easy 10 and Cloud Easy for Microsoft's second half ending June 30 and the name presumably stems from the New Orleans site for its Convergence conference next week.

The slogan in Crazy Eddie ads was "His prices are insane." And while not insane, the stream of Dynamics specials tend to resemble the prevalent discounting by Intuit of its QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. When I asked resellers about my impression that Microsoft is acting like Intuit with a never-ending series of promotions I got answers such as this: "It’s not your imagination." That would certainly fit with the theory outlined in an item posted on this website on February, titled "Dynamics Missing Rev Goals?" One reseller conversation at the time made the complaint that these offers bring in new users, but lower revenue. What this seems to be showing is supported by developments such as talent going from Microsoft to Acumatica is that the switch to the cloud is well underway. Very simply, most companies have an on-premise accounting system and do not have a cloud-based one so it's a lot easier to find new customers for SaaS systems. This switch is summarized by a statement made by CEO Clark Haley of Sage reseller BCS/ProSoft about the reaction his company is getting for NetSuite on its educational road shows. "I'm amazed at the turn out we're receiving. I am surprised at the amount of interest around Cloud among our customers as well as non-customers." The same message has come from Microsoft resellers who have picked up Intacct. The road for desktop software sales is only going to get harder.
