WIDE-OPEN SPACES AT CONVERGENCE

“They are saving space for that new condo development,” I said while talking to folks at the Avalara booth. Certainly, the space occupied by Microsoft in the center of the exhibit floor, which I believe carried the name Customer Experience Center (Yuck) , at the Convergence user conference very sparsely populated – the actual kiosks were spaced far apart and the kiosks themselves were lower profile than Microsoft has typically had at these events.

Others agreed that there seemed to a higher number than normal of the plain vanilla booths. “Maybe Microsoft had to rent two halls and had to spread out to fill both,” I remarked to an ISV. “I think there are fewer exhibits,” another ISV said. I would be surprised in Microsoft would say that is true, but I’ll ask. Highlight of the show floor? Hitachi Solutions making fresh beignets at the booth, especially since on St. Patrick’s Day the legendary Café du Monde was so swamped that it was hard to get a hot beignet. The show floor reflected the reality of Microsoft’s four accounting applications – booths featuring AX were the bigger ones and yes, it is the favorite child.
