FEWER VAR CHIEFS AT CONVERGENCE?

Tony DiBenedetto, TribridgeThere's a general impression that there were fewer reseller bigwigs at Microsoft Convergence this month. That does not mean there were fewer people at the show with its more than 11,000 attendees who registered as resellers. There were 1,575 resellers in attendance at Convergence 2012 and 1,665 in 2013, according to the official Microsoft count. But there seemed to be fewer owners visible. That's my impression and I quickly queried a handful of others who made the trip to New Orleans and got agreement on this point.
The owner absences were particularly visible at the Interdyn party. Interdyn CEO's Jeff Geisler (Socius), Gary Artis (Interdyn Artis), Dale May (Interdyn Lanac) and Tad Remington (Interdyn Remington) were missing and usually a majority of those have made past shows. But while Geisler was absent, Socius was represented which is why I think the reseller count might reflect more lower-level people. Did I mention that Geisler heads of  three Master VARs in the U.S.? There were others like Joe Longo and Jim Bowman, owners of Master VAR SBS Group, who spent a great deal of time in meetings away from the conference and did not attend any sessions. SBS took the opportunity to meet with representatives of its network offsite. Tony DiBenedetto, CEO of the other American Master VAR, Tribridge, was on a reseller panel that spoke to the press and analysts. But what does it mean when the owners of two of three Master VARs are not visible at the show? Maybe it doesn't mean anything.
