MICROSOFT'S BALLMER TO RETIRE Featured

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft  Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has announced his plan to retire from the company within a year. The long-time Microsoft leader says he will leave once a successor is chosen. Wall Street, which has not been happy with the loud and frenetic CEO, registered its approval by boosting the price of company shares.

In an email to employees Ballmer wrote, "My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company's transformation to a devices and services company." However, he said the company needs someone who plans to be at the helm longer than that. Microsoft's board has appointed a special committee for the search that includes co-founder and chairman Bill Gates.
