Then I would say that although it would take some time to settle in that I would make every attempt to meet as many of my VARs as soon as possible. And I would establish an email that I would encourage them all to contact me (depending on the volume, I might assign someone to triage the mail and answer the less urgent). There's always that question about how a leader influences an organization and with any big organization, issuing orders and managing executives may be important, but that's a slow process. Executives can have the most immediate impact by establishing a tone, setting priorities, articulating company values and communicating those clearly and immediately. It is a sales job that first involves setting expectations, limiting choices - the goal of any sales person -  and also a creating sense of shared ownership in the company mission. The latter can be difficult in cases where there have been many jobs lost, but successful organizations, the kinds that many of us want to work at and perhaps never have, manage to make the mission one that involves everyone.
