AN ACTIVE MARKET FOR SAAS SWITCHERS?

This newsletter last month reported statements by Doug Johnson, marketing VP for Acumatica, that the company had been winning business from other SaaS vendors. Johnson opined that it was actually easier to switch between Internet applications than between on-premise applications.
That brought a strong disagreement from Dan Druker, marketing VP for Intacct, who said there was not a major opportunity for business with SaaS switchers although "there are probably several thousand unhappy NetSuite clients to go after" … Actually the disagreement could be over the interpretation over how big the opportunity is, not about whether it exists. There does seem to be evidence for a fairly active switching market. Earlier this month, Epicor also pointed to the switching market. In remarks made during last month’s earnings conference call, John Hiraoka, Epicor's chief marketing officer, said that Epicor is gaining business for its Epicor Express. "… most of our competitive wins have been coming against those companies that installed those products and didn't find them to be feature-rich enough to support their manufacturing requirements. So they’re moving to Express."
