WOLTERS KLUWER BUYS SURETAX Featured

Karen Abramson, Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting has acquired SureTax, a specialist in taxation in the telecommunications and utility markets. This is just the latest M&A action in what has been a very active market with players in indirect taxation, including Avalara and Sovos Compliance, picking up specialized products. "The primary focus to be able to serve our telecom clients and the telecom industry in a stronger and better way," says Karen Abramson, CEO of the Wolters Kluwer division.

The company invests in high-growth markets and Abramson described indirect tax as a high-growth area, so I am sure we will see more M&A activity from WK. Founded in 2011 by Mike Sanders, who will remain with the company, Alpharetta, Ga.-based SureTax has seven employees. Asked if her company might utilize SureTax technology as an engine for other products in the indirect tax line, Abramson said, "We'll take a look at it." Wolters Kluwer has been visible at events, such as Microsoft's Convergence conference, in exhibiting its indirect tax products. Other entries in the line are Sales Tax Rates and Decisions Administration Reporting, Sales Tax Research & Compliance Manager and CCH Sales Tax Office.
