INTUIT STARTS TWO-TIER PROGRAM

Dave Vieregg, IntuitIntuit's channel program, which has been very quiet for a while, is getting some new life as the company introduces a two-tier reseller program. The Intuit Solution Provider program gets Authorized and Premier layers. One of the biggest changes is the imposition of the first annual sales requirement.

To maintain Premier status, resellers must have $30,000 in purchases from Intuit. Otherwise, the new offerings are standard stuff in terms of leads, marketing and co-op funds. Intuit's channel program has been quiet since the department of BJ Schaknowski in early 2011. I would say, drifted. "After BJ left, we have been going through a bit of a journey," says Dave Vieregg, director of sales and marketing, who has taken over the various channels. The interview with the ISP team took place last week at Intuit's Mountain View offices. And I concluded there are still issues. Attempts to question the direct sales competition that drove traditional mid-market VARs out of active selling of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions got nowhere. Authorized ISPs get to buy from distributors.  And Intuit is going to be pushing those who are not suited to be resellers to the ProAdvisor program.  "A lot of guys have this as an adjacent part of the business. Some are accountants—and are better served by the accounting program," says Karen Hartsell, director of Solutions Provider Channel Strategies.
