Rutherford served as CFO of the Ferro Corp., a manufacturer of coatings and colors, from April 2012 through September 2016. When it ran its campaign, Ancora said Fullscope and Ranzel ran largely independently and Singleton and Clancy were "dead weight".

An investment group that pledged to oust Shirley Singleton, CEO of Edgewater Technology, has kept its promise. The board of directors has named one of its members, Jeffrey L. Rutherford, as chairman, interim president and CEO. An investor group, which had vowed to replace Singleton and the company's chief technology officer David Clancey, won a proxy fight in February.
