Intacct is coming in with limited goals to market to service-based businesses, deliberately avoiding construction. But it's interesting that in last week's earning Webcast, CEO Kevin Parker said Deltek's acquisition of Maconomy, would help it in Europe, but the big advantage would be in reaching American public relations and advertising firms. Deltek's major markets include architectural and engineering firms, the strong arenas for its Vision software. Deltek has also worked to expand its consulting firm customer base. But one area it has not been able to touch is accounting. Parker said Maconomy would help Deltek break into the firms below the Big Four. Intacct will use its alliance with CPA2Biz to get CPAs into this market, both as recommenders and advisors and plans to use channel veteran Taylor Macdonald to recruit CPAs and VARs. VP Dan Druker said Intacct has seen interest from VARs carrying the two most common packages sold to project-based businesses in the midmarket, Dynamics SL (Solomon) from Microsoft and Deltek, whose channel was largely built by Macdonald in his almost one year there in 2008. Intacct's product initiative also included a deal to integrate with Clarizen for Advanced Work Management. I didn't hear a message about customization to serve different markets. Also, the Intacct product won't be available on mobile devices to start out. It will provide forms to be filled out in the field for entering information such as time, but on laptops.
