B’BAUD CEO FACES DUI CHARGE Featured

Blackbaud CEO Mike Gianoni was charged with driving under the influence in Isle of Palms, S.C., on February 16.

Blackbaud disclosed the event in a filing with the SEC. Gianoni has told the board of directors of the nonprofit software company that he is contesting the charge. The SEC filing said the event followed a family dinner. “The Board takes this matter seriously and is continuing to monitor it and associated considerations,” the filing says. Gianoni continues as president, CEO and vice chairman. He has served as CEO since January 2014. A WCSC-TV report, quoting the police incident report, said about 1:51 am, an officer observed a Mercedes SUV with high beams on and began following it. The car then crossed a white fog line and the driver failed to use a turn signal when changing lanes and the officer stopped it. Following standard field sobriety tests, the officer concluded Gianoni was too impaired to drive, and he was arrested and later booked. The report stated Gianoni refused to take a breathalyzer test. It’s certainly a distraction in a period in which the nonprofit software company has faced a major distraction—a 2020 ransomware attack fo which Blackbaud paid ransom. The event produced legal actions from all states, the SEC and the FTC, with a proposed settlement of the latter referring Blackbaud’s “shoddy security and data retention”.
