SAGE OPENS ISV MARKETPLACE Featured

SageSage has opened a marketplace that it calls a global distribution platform for ISVs. The online Sage Marketplace is designed for ISVs to sell add-on products that integrate with Sage's applications—Sage One, Live, Impact and X3. I keep coming back to the gap between X3 and the others and trying to figure out how it makes sense.

Sage acknowledges there is no common architecture. However, Michael De Jongh, VP of global ISV and developer programs, says, "We have a clearly defined global partner program that brings all these products together in a single program, with a single entry point to all developers needing to access the APIs, documentation, and web services to make their additions readily available to existing Sage customers." While integrations are being made for products separate, the company is "moving towards making it easier to have the integrations work with multiple platforms." The marketplace enables endusers to buy directly from ISVs, who often have their own channel programs. Asked about the impact on this model, DeJongh says, "Sage Marketplace is simply another option for distribution, and for partnering with Sage as a global champion of small and medium businesses, and we hope it adds tremendous value to our customers and ISVs alike." The press release about the marketplace says this follows the global launch of the Sage Global Partner Program, which from my recollection, did not receive much in the way of public discussion other than a program was introduced.
