MACDONALD RESPONSE ON CLOUD COMMENTS
In the holiday issue of the newsletter, I mused on comments by Taylor Macdonald, VP of channels for Intacct that he wanted to make reselling fun again. My view is that the fun came when companies didn’t have accounting software and needed it and that while the switch to the cloud would come, it’s not going to be such a booming market. Here’s Macdonald’s comments (which don’t change my opinion): “ First, mid-market firms are switching financial software once every eight years – so that means 12 percent of businesses are looking every year.
Most of these are not going to look at on-premise software again. So there are lots of SaaS buyers. Firms on QB or QBE are switching every four to six years – so this is also driving lots of buying. This is manifested in the substantial number of leads that we are passing on to our partners – and they tell us that in most cases they no longer are receiving more than token leads from their on-premise vendor. Best estimates are that roughly half of the market is selecting Cloud ERP solutions today and most of these are first time SaaS buyers. Couple that with a limited Intacct partner distribution model and you can see why we think our partners will be having fun again – lots of demand and an elite partner channel equals a great opportunity.”
