CRM TO THE CLOUD

While Microsoft has been loudly promoting “to the cloud” in its television advertisement, I am sure there are people like me who keep thinking “but they don’t have anything in the ERP world.” Well, now the vendor, which I think is accurately described as having poo-poohed SaaS, is trumpeting loudly with yesterday’s introduction of CRM Online.

One reseller, who I’ll not name because of some other info he provided, said that the CRM intro looks like a real hit. It sounds like Microsoft got a far more complete package with this release than it did in the first few on-premise CRM packages (some assembly required). There's also the compulsory switching offer for Oracle and Salesforce.com customers. "Qualified" customers who "will receive up to $200 per user, which can be applied for services such as migrating data or customizing the solution to meet unique business needs." Meanwhile, Sage North America got in on the online product marketing blitz with the announcement of additions to SalesLogix. This includes KnowledgeSync alerts, a SalesLogix Customer Portal and some Web administration enhancements for both on-premise users and SalesLogix Cloud. Last week, Microsoft introduced WebMatrix, which it said was delivering on its cloud vision. I think testing showed that to be about 20/200.
