AVALARA NAMES CTO Featured

Danny Fields, Avalara Avalara has named Danny Fields as EVP of engineering and chief technology officer. Fields fills the vacancy left by the departure of Peter Harodan in January. He was most recently SVP of engineering and chief software development officer at MobileIron from February 2016 until taking the new job.

He spent more than 21 years with Oracle and was with that software company from July 1990 through July 2007.  He moved to RightNow Technologies from August 2007 through February 2012, serving as VP of engineering for the RightNow Service Cloud. Oracle purchased that company and Fields became VP of engineering for the Oracle Service Cloud from March 2012 through August 2015. He was group VP of engineering in the same arena from September 2015 through February 2016. An article in December by GeekWire said Horadan, EVP of engineering and CTO, and Matt Tormollen, EVP of research and development, left after the company decided to centralize development and engineering under one person. Tormollen was scheduled to stay on during the first quarter, while Avalara hired its former president, Kevin Riegelsberger, as interim head of Engineering and Development. A December letter by CEO Scott McFarlane said Riegelsberger, who retired, has remained active as a consultant with the company.
