STOCK AWARDS BOOST AVALARA PAY Featured

Stock awards pushed compensation for Avalara’s top executives past 2019 levels for the year ended December 31. That included CEO Scott McFarlane whose pay last year was 21.7 percent over 2020 levels.

McFarlane received $11.2 million last year, compared to $9.2 million the prior year, pushing the recent total to slightly less than $10 million in 2019. None of Avalara’s four named executives received any option awards; the year-over-year increases stemmed primarily from stock awards, which were the major source of pay for all four. McFarlane received slightly less than $10 million in stock awards for 2021, 84.7-percent over the $5.4 million from that source the prior year. CFO Ross Tenenbaum received $4.1 million in 2021, up 10.7 percent from $3.7 million. COO Amit Mathradas was given $4.2 million in compensation last year, an increase of 17.4 percent from $3.6 million. The company awarded $2.7 million in pay in 2021 to chief legal officer Alesia Pinney, rising 58.9 percent from $1.7 million.
