CYMA PROMOTES DOS UPGRADES

cyma logoKids, you may have to ask your parents to explain some of these terms. But last month, Cyma Systems began offering what it called "aggressive upgrade pricing for legacy DOS-based accounting software clients" for the rest of the year. At Solider Field this month, some of us Intuit attendees were debating how much DOS is out there, particular in areas like Accpac Plus since the world did not come to an end on Jan. 1, 2000. (Well, I don't think it did.)

Cyma says that over its 30-year history, its PAS+, GBS and Shoebox products were successful and users are hesitant to upgrade. That's putting it mildly. However, the company warns that DOS-based systems may be function properly in coming years. I guess Cyma is preparing them for the 2010 problem. I keep reminding people that what is essentially RealWorld is being sold by Passport Software and Armor Software is still on the market under the Roundtable label. Heck, Roundtable Software is offering trial versions in DOS and Windows. Its September 29 newsletter announced the release of System Manager 5.02 and Web Commerce 5.05 and discussed the product's compatibility with Windows 7. These users know how to stretch a dollar.
