MICROSOFT AND INTUIT JOIN HANDS IN THE CLOUDS

Microsoft and Intuit have agreed to integrate capabilities of Microsoft's Windows Azure and Intuit's Partner Platform so that developers can write more apps in the clouds. This announcement is aimed at small business, and it shows the push Microsoft is making for Azure, which is something of an operating environment for SaaS applications.
Sometime in 2010, Microsoft will also make applications available for purchase via the Intuit App Center, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Office Live Meeting and Office Communications Online. This announcement has a more immediate impact on developers, with the release of a Windows Azure software development kit, which can be downloaded and tested. I'm not sure how quickly QuickBooks users will leap to these applications and would suspect it will take time for apps to be written, noticed and used in small business. But Azure is a big deal and combining it with SharePoint, Microsoft's hottest product, is an even bigger deal.
