MICROSOFT OUTLINES MASTER VAR PLAN

dynamics logoMicrosoft today outlined its plan for Master VARs that will be created as an umbrella for smaller resellers that might otherwise be driven from the business by new requirements. While 10 organizations are reportedly interested in achieving Master VAR status, none are approved. Microsoft stated only that an announcement would be made soon.

However, key elements of the program, spelled out during a webinar this week, include that fact that smaller dealers who sign on with a Master VAR will be termed Sales Affiliates and will fall under the Master VAR's brand while maintaining their independence. Master VARs will provide services such as centralized marketing, support and logistics and the affiliates get the benefit of their partners' purchasing level with Microsoft. Affiliates will have the ability to terminate their relationship with the Master VARs. Microsoft emphasized that this is a long-term program and that there is no need for channel members to rush to make a decision. There is no minimum threshold for Sales Affiliates and Master VARs were described as having great latitude in how they structure relationships.
