NETSUITE: SAP TALKS LEAD TO US

Ron GillOrganizations that talk to SAP because of their interest in SaaS often bring NetSuite into the discussions.  That was the process outlined this week by NetSuite’s CEO Ron Gill at the Piper Jaffray Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference. Gill said NetSuite often gets into deals it otherwise wouldn’t when SAP talks to prospects first.

“Companies talk to SAP and then decide ‘If we are going to do SaaS we better look at SaaS' and we get brought in,” he said. That of course assumes that what SAP has really isn’t SaaS. Gill also said rather than being an SMB system, SAP’s Business ByDesign seems to be more of a defense against point solutions. As far as the overall threat represented by ByD, Gill commented that, “If this is what the results of a $1 billion investment are, I feel good.” He also said that ByD seems to have very few referenceable sites.
