SAGE ON CRM SALES
The last issue talked about the buzz in the channel that Sage North America was considering direct sales of CRM. Sage has described the process which essentially says there are direct sales, but …. And I believe this is an explanation that has been given before regarding sales of other products.
A spokesman gave this explanation: “We’re calling into customers directly to help drive opportunities which we’ll align with partners. In rare cases, we’ll take the deal if it’s small or of no interest to partners. We’re not building a direct business, but we are fully intent on ensuring the customer’s needs are met." That translates as “If you don’t do it, we will.” One of the Sage's problems with CRM, in my view, has always been a gap in the product line. Act is low end and SalesLogix high end. It has not managed to fill the space in between where most of the midmarket would buy, except with AccpacCRM, which does not tend to find a home outside of the Accpac base.
