TOP 100: POSITIONS OPEN

There is room at the top; that is in Bob Scott’s Insights Top 100 VARs. Two players on last year’s list have disappeared in the last three months. Actually, Tribridge’s acquisition of ePartners does not count since the latter was in business all of 2011 as was First Tech Direct which was just purchased by Columbus. So both are eligible since they were in business for the entire year.

What these two acquisitions may be signaling is that serious M&A has begun again. While there have been deals, they have largely involved the purchase of small channel organizations as opposed to large resellers buying others that are significant factors in the market. The item in this newsletter about Jeff Lynn having abandoned his efforts to aggregate resellers and ISVs also says something about what the last two years has been like in terms of channel consolidation.
